100 Mini Qurban, or Urban for Church Services

$199.00

Straight from the renowned Forn, “Bakery”, Abou Elias in Zahle Lebanon, now in the USA, you can savor the same unforgettable taste and flavor you cherished. Ur-ban (Qurban or Korban) in Lebanese, means “soul food” or “holy bread.” Qurbān is connected to the Aramaic word korbānā, meaning “offering.” Delight your palate with this culinary treasure!

Qurban refers to the holy bread used in the Eucharist and other liturgical services. During memorials service and funerals, qurban plays a significant role in the rituals and ceremonies. A portion of the qurban that is not consecrated is blessed and distributed to the faithful as a sign of fellowship and blessing. This blessed bread, known as antidoron, is often given to attendees at the end of the memorial service.

Description

Our Process:

We source our Rose water and Mahleb directly from Lebanon. This rosewater is unlike any commercial brand, as it is lovingly homemade in the village using a specific variety of rose known as “ward joury” (Rosa Damascena)—the sweetest and most delicate rose you’ll ever encounter! After years of meticulous research, we’ve discovered the finest unbleached, non-GMO artisan flour to perfect our recipe.

What is Qurban:

Ur-ban, Qurban or Kurban, translates in Lebanese to soul food, however this snack isn’t sacrilegious, korban are often for sale for public consumption. You can literally smell this bread baking from blocks away, the scent of blossom flower water seduces you into submission.

The Dough:
It boasts a perfect balance of sweetness and unparalleled sponginess. Just one bite, and you’re hooked! My family has cherished and used this same recipe since 1962.

When to eat:
Begin your day with Qurban paired with tea or coffee for the perfect breakfast. It also makes a delightful appetizer or satisfying snack. Best of all, it freezes beautifully and reheats like a dream. Simply warm the Qurban at 360°F for 2 minutes, and you’ll know it’s ready when its inviting aroma fills the air.

At the Church
Qurban is served during the First Holy Communion, a deeply meaningful milestone in the life of a Catholic child. It is also shared at the church funeral service (the funeral mass), where it is blessed by the priest and distributed. This offering is intended to bring comfort and solace to souls.
