Vegan Mdardara Lentils And Rice With Caramelized Onions – 2 Servings

$22.00

I grew up in a Lebanese family where, this dish would be an all time favorite; The smell of caramelized onions in the kitchen will always bring me back in time, to those meatless Fridays and Wednesdays, or to the Lent period in Lebanon. Lebanese Mdardara is a variation of Mujadara, and it shares many of the same ingredients but with a slightly different preparation. It’s made with lentils, rice, and caramelized onions, but in Mdardara, the rice and lentils are often cooked together, creating a dish with a softer, more cohesive texture.

Description

What makes Mdardara so delicious is the rich depth of flavor from the caramelized onions, which infuse the entire dish with their sweet and savory notes. The lentils provide an earthy, hearty base, while the rice adds a creamy, comforting balance. Sometimes a drizzle of olive oil or a squeeze of fresh lemon juice is added just before serving, enhancing the flavors further.

Served warm or at room temperature, often with a side of fresh vegetables, yogurt, or a simple salad, Mdardara is a wholesome, satisfying dish that embodies the beauty of simplicity. It’s humble yet utterly mouthwatering—an enduring favorite in Lebanese cuisine. Have you had the chance to try or make it?
